David Roon's background is in Conservation Genetics and Endangered Species Conservation. He is currently the program lead for the Conservation Biology major, and the Associate Director for Environmental Science at the University of Idaho. In this role, he mentors students on projects ranging from Bat Ecology and Genetics in Ecuador to Snail Diversity in Idaho.
In addition, David holds a Master of Fine Arts at the University of Idaho. He has an active art practice (with a focus on printmaking and ceramics). He researches and teaches about the use of fine art in communicating complex concepts in Ecology and Conservation. He is also a student of the Japanese language, and has studied traditional printmaking (Mokuhanga) in Japan.
