Biography & Scholarship

Haltinner's research focuses on the ways ideas are built into social institutions, impact people’s lived experiences, and shape human behavior. She further explores the possibilities for a more just society by examining the creation, maintenance, spread, and institutionalization of ideologies and discourses as they relate to systems of power (race, gender, class, etc.). Specifically, Haltinner examine/d how these ideas are created, imbedded, and altered in/through right-wing social movement organizations (the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, Tea Party Patriots, climate change skepticism); student activism, and institutions (i.e., obstetric care).
