Abstract
Sedimentation is a multimedia work of digital scholarship that traces Glen Canyon's entangled human and natural histories through its sedimentary archive: the record held in rock, silt, and water as the Colorado River, and later the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell, reshaped the landscape. Part environmental history and part experiment in narrative form, it asks what storytelling shapes suit nonhuman and ecological histories, drawing on the affordances of digital storytelling—archival imagery, interactivity, and hyperlinked, nonlinear structure—to braid visual material and writing into a single reading experience. Built with CollectionBuilder and drawing primarily on the Colorado Plateau Digital Collection at Northern Arizona University's Cline Library, including the Glen Canyon photography of Tad Nichols, the project foregrounds environmental justice, Indigenous land and water rights, and ecological remediation. Sedimentation was created by Hannah Green as her English M.A. thesis at the University of Idaho, with design and development support from Devin Becker and the Center for Digital Inquiry and Learning (CDIL).
