Abstract
The sugar beet cyst nematode is the major pest that affects sugar beet production worldwide, accounting for more than 90% of losses caused by nematodes. The pest is particularly destructive in Idaho and eastern Oregon. This publication will help you to navigate your options by providing the basic information about the pest (its life cycle and host range), detection strategies (plant symptoms and soil sampling techniques) and its management (via prevention, cultural practices, use of resistant cultivars, resistant catch crops and chemicals).
