Abstract
Outcome-based management (OBM) is an adaptive, collaborative approach to public land management that the Bureau of Land Management initiated in 2017 to improve rangeland health. Although it’s more flexible than process-driven grazing permits, it presents significant challenges, including constant data collection and monitoring, developing and working with a team, and submitting NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) documentation. The first of a three-video series, this twenty-minute video aims to demystify the NEPA process by tracking the University of Idaho Rinker Rock Creek Ranch’s permit renewal effort that began in 2019. After defining what OBM is, the video discusses the ranch owner’s role, the prerequisites needed to make OBM work, and how to prepare an OBM NEPA alternative.
