Abstract
The 2025 National Summer Transportation Institute Program for the state of Idaho was designed to increase student interest and engagement in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) disciplines, with a focus on transportation-related fields. A core objective of the program was to broaden participation among rural and local community students in order to contribute to the development of a skilled, diverse STEM workforce. This year’s camp consisted of two non-residential sessions, each lasting five days and located on the University of Idaho campus in Moscow, ID. The first session was held on July 28th to August 1st, and the second session on August 4th to August 8th. The program was fully funded by the Federal Highway Administration with support from the Idaho Transportation Department, and was offered at no cost to participants. A total of 16 middle school students attended the sessions. Participant feedback, collected from both students and parents, was overwhelmingly positive, indicating strong program satisfaction and perceived value. These results support the retention of the camp in fostering early interest in transportation-related STEM pathways.
