Abstract

Dairy in a Box is a collaborative effort of University of Idaho Extension 4-H, Dairy West, and Ag in the Classroom that provides dairy lessons and activities in a box (or kit) form for youth grades 3–8. Six lessons guide youth from farm to fridge to table, focusing on cows, dairies, nature’s role, the transportation of milk, and even how to make homemade butter. A variety of learning aids, including videos, interactives, vocabulary/terminology building, and quizzes, foster student interest. What’s more, the approach can be teacher- or student-led. Designed for use in Utah and Idaho (lessons align with Idaho Content Standards), the box is a curriculum in kit form fit for use in the classroom.
