Abstract
"In 2026, America will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Efforts are underway at the national and state levels to recognize the momentous milestone. Much like the Bicentennial of 1976, this anniversary has the potential to drive important investments in historic preservation and commemoration. University of Idaho’s scholarly community is uniquely positioned to make meaningful contributions to America250 projects, with experts in the American experience located in departments and units across our state-wide campus. Dulce Kersting-Lark, co-chair of U of I’s local planning committee, will offer an overview of ways that faculty, students, and community members can engage with themes like “Unfinished Revolutions” and “Power of Place.” Nathan J. Moody, graduate student with the History Department, will discuss his work on the university’s district nomination to the National Register of Historic Places and how it will connect with America250 themes as well."
