Abstract
Due to budget cuts, libraries need to rely more on student employees than ever before. The College of New Jersey’s R. Barbara Gitenstein Library has been strategically creating a training program for our new student employees in interlibrary loan (ILL). This paper explains the drivers for including student staff in ILL workflows, a theory applied to training the student staff Cognitive Load Theory (CLT), and the practical application of that theory in the ILL training program. This piece describes and shares the Springshare LibGuide used for that training and discusses broader applications of CLT.
