Abstract

A total of 72 species in 14 genera of Scoliidae are listed for the Americas. The countries with the highest number of species were Brazil (n = 32), Mexico (29), and the United States (24), while the country with the lowest number was Saint Lucia (1). The genus Triscolia are restricted to North America. Sphenocampsomeris and Tenebromeris are restricted to South America. Aelocampsomeris variegata, Campsomeris peregrina, Dielis dorsata, Pygodasis ephhipium, Stygocampsomeris servillei have the widest distribution, from Mexico to South America. An updated taxonomic classification of Scoliidae species in the Americas is presented, providing an important baseline for future taxonomic and conservation studies. Further research should prioritize the scoliid fauna of underrepresented countries in Central and South America.
