Abstract

Creative Writing Fiction Posthuman Science-fiction
Sums of Parts is a collection of six science-fiction short stories featuring plants, robots, information economies, and bad neighbors. This collection calls attention to the systems that assemble into and function through its characters. Sums of Parts offers a post-human reckoning, considering what it means to be a transpersonal assemblage and how these assemblages make cyborgs of us. The systemization of these characters occurs with various degrees of technological intervention, demonstrating that cyborgs come in many forms as they relate to other entities in their storyworlds. This approach to characterization permeates boundaries between subjects, between material and digital domains, and between human and natural constructions.
