Abstract
I use thermal paper.I use cement.
I use aluminum.
I use light.
I use pink.
I strive to provide an invitation for introspection through my artwork. I want viewers to identify the materials and elements used as a catalyst that defines the weight of the statements I’m making in my work. Through this introspection, I hope viewers can consider the objective systems that govern their subjective perceptions.
I incorporate a variety of materials to explore themes of transience and permanence, both structurally and conceptually. For instance, I work with sturdy and function materials like concrete to convey durability, while using thermal paper to highlight fragility and impermanence. Light, often in vibrant pink hues, serves as a metaphor for the fleeting, vivid aspects of human experience, capturing the viewer’s attention. Cement and aluminum represent notions of stability and utility, whereas thermal paper emphasizes the transient and disposable nature of the human experience.
My use of different materials paired with the element of words is something I’m drawn to in my visual communication strategy. The power of marks, numbers, and words defines our lives in a quantifiable way. This palpable method to describing humanity is nothing but complex, and my goal as an artist and designer is to communicate that tension between tangible facts and intangible experiences.
