Abstract
Cybersecurity awareness is an important aspect of maintaining security and privacy for individuals. We hypothesized that there is a correlation between age of introduction to and general use of technology and college students' familiarity to cybersecurity issues. We are especially interested in this correlation in developing countries. Therefore, we conducted a survey of approximately 200 students across several universities in the Philippines during Summer 2024. This paper provides an overview of our study and results. Preliminary results showed no correlation between internet security and privacy awareness and behavior and any of the tested characteristics. Most respondents first used internet as older teens or young adults and primarily use cell phones for that access. This is the first portion of a larger project to develop age and experience appropriate internet security and privacy training materials for children in developing countries.
