Abstract
Successful collaborations require a combination of skill and serendipity - being in the right place, at the right time, with the right elevator pitch. The role of luck can make it difficult to assess our workflows for seeking out, initiating, and maintaining collaborations because we may never have a complete explanation for why potential collaborators aren't receptive, or existing collaborators lose interest. Based on a combination of literature and the speaker's experience as Research, Outreach, and Engagement librarian at the University of Idaho, this session will provide recommendations for explicitly building luck into collaboration work so as to facilitate new collaborations and make assessing past collaborative work easier.
