Abstract

Educational Leadership Leadership Decision-Making Sensemaking

This qualitative study explores how educational leaders interpret and respond to stakeholder backlash surrounding socially contentious issues. It examines how leaders navigate competing demands, polarized environments, and pressures associated with contested policies, curricula, and institutional practices. Findings highlight the importance of prior professional experience, emotional regulation, relational empathy, trust, and contextual judgement in leadership decision-making. The study contributes to understanding how educational leaders sustain decision-making and relationships while responding to organized public resistance and competing stakeholder expectations.
