Abstract

Multiterminal high-voltage DC (HVDC) transmission systems, are enabling technologies for bulk electricity transmission in large power systems, especially for those with a higher degree of renewable penetration. As such, their controls should be designed to be resilient against grid disturbances and cyber events. We developed and tested a domain-based scheme of HVDC control devices and associated utility system controllers to defend against malicious attempts to disrupt electric power service by spoofing measurements used as control inputs of the multi-terminal HVDC stations. The proposed scheme is demonstrated via simulation.
